What To Write In Wedding & Business Thank You Cards (Bulk Edition)

You just got married, ran a bridal shower, hosted a baby shower, finished a fundraiser, or wrapped a major work project. There are 30 thank you cards in front of you and you're already losing energy. The temptation is to write the same generic four sentences in every one. Don't.

This is a guide to writing thank you cards in bulk — specifically wedding and business thank-yous — without your handwriting deteriorating into illegibility and your sentences becoming form letters.

The bulk thank you card problem

The math is brutal. If you have 100 thank you cards to write, and you spend 5 minutes on each, that's 8+ hours. People burn out around card 25. Cards 50-100 are noticeably less personal than cards 1-25. The recipient knows.

The solution isn't to spend MORE time per card. It's to use a template that lets you stay consistent while still personalizing each one.

The 5-line bulk thank you formula

  1. Greeting. Use their first name. ("Hi Jen," or "Hi Mike," — not "Hello,")
  2. Specific reference to what they did. Don't write “thanks for the gift” — write “thanks for the cast iron skillet, we'll think of you every time we burn pancakes in it.”
  3. Real sentiment. One line of warmth, in your voice.
  4. Forward look. “Hope to see you soon” / “See you at the next one” / “Catch up over dinner soon.” Specific is better than vague.
  5. Sign off. Your name. (Both names if from a couple.)

Hi Jen,

Thank you so much for the cast iron skillet — we've already used it twice and burned dinner once. Worth every dollar.

Thank you for the referral — it means a lot, especially in this kind of work where reputation is most of the job.

Hi [Name],

Thanks for being a great client this quarter. Genuinely. The project came together well because you were responsive and clear about what you wanted, and that's not always a given.

Time-saving rules for writing 30+ at a sitting

  • Write the templates first, in a doc. Don't compose card by card. Have your sentences staged.
  • Batch in groups of 10. Write 10 cards. Stand up. Walk around. Do the next 10.
  • Personalize the second line every time. The second line (specific gift / specific contribution) is what makes the card feel personal. Don't skip it.
  • Pre-stamp and pre-address envelopes BEFORE you start writing. Otherwise you finish writing all 30 cards and then have to do another 30 envelopes.
  • Have water nearby. Genuine.

Where to find bulk thank you cards

Generic boxed thank you cards from Target work fine, but they're forgettable. If you want the recipient to actually keep the card, the wording on the front does most of the work for you.

Browse our funny thank you cards in bulk — packs of 10, 30, or 50. Designed in-house, printed in the USA on heavy 270gsm FSC-certified paper. The kind of thank you card that doesn't feel like a form letter.
